Turmeric : From garden to kitchen

Some years ago, I happened to buy a few turmeric plants from a vendor by the road-side in Bangalore.  With some festival just around the corner, there were plenty of vendors selling these turmeric leaves/plants.  I planted them in our kitchen-garden, hoping to reap some turmeric leaves for kitchen use.  Turmeric leaves are used for preparing a sweet dish called patholi by the konkani community.  Little did I care to think of any other use of these plants.

Honing a child’s creativity

I must confess that I began to sense the gravity of creativity only after I had a child.  Until then, I mostly associated creativity with art-work.  Academics being the priority in our schooling years, creativity was a skill that I conveniently nudged into artists’ plate.

Why do we express angles in terms of fractions or multiples of π i.e. 30°, 90°, 180°, 360°… as  π/6, π/2, π, 2π … ?

Why does a circle have 360°?  Why is 360° = 2π?
